First beta: tester checklist
Use a made-up recipe and a disposable plan for this first pass. Mark each item Passed, Problem or Not tried. You do not need to finish everything in one sitting.
Beta access requires Adam's approval. Request it through the person who invited you; TestFlight invitations are shared privately after approval.
1. Install and reopen
- Follow the approved iPhone installation instructions.
- Confirm the app says Risoni and shows the tomato icon.
- Close and reopen Risoni. Check that the same kitchen and test recipe are available.
For an update test, use only the upgrade path named in that release's notes. Before and after the update, compare a disposable recipe, plan, shopping decision and saved cooking session. Report any missing data; do not erase it to make the test pass.
2. Add one recipe
In Paste text, use this made-up example. It is a software test, not cooking advice:
Title: Beta Practice Soup
Ingredients: - 1 cup water - 2 tbsp parsley
Method: 1. Stir for 30 seconds. 2. Rest for 1 minute.
Notes: Disposable beta test recipe.
Check the saved result
- Review it, change the title and add an ingredient. Save.
- Reopen it and check the edits.
- Paste the same original text again. Confirm it offers the saved recipe rather than another copy.
- Cancel a new paste before saving. Confirm it added nothing.
- If import is your priority, also try one small file you can safely share for troubleshooting. Keep the original and compare warnings, counts, wording and photos.
3. Plan and shop
- Give the test recipe a reviewed original serving count in Edit. Plan it for a chosen date and a different serving count.
- Open Shopping and check the date range and ingredients.
- Change only one item's amount. Omit a different generated ingredient and purchase another item.
- Add a manual item, switch List/By aisle, then reopen the app.
- Confirm the date, servings, correction, omission, purchased check and view preference remain.
Optional: use Add to Reminders with a disposable Reminders list. Check selected items arrive once, repeat the add, and confirm Risoni and Reminders purchased checks remain independent. Do not use your important grocery list for the first test.
4. Cook and resume
- Open Cook from the planned meal. Check servings and original ingredient wording.
- Review a suggested time, then cancel. Confirm no timer starts.
- Start one named suggested timer and a second named manual timer.
- Check an ingredient, move to the next step, close cooking and reopen the app.
- Resume and check the step, servings, ingredient check, timer names and continuing deadlines.
- Stop one timer and confirm the other remains. Finish only when you want to end the session.
Use a separate reliable timer for actual food while background alert behavior is being tested.
5. Try your preferred size and controls
Try your normal iPhone text size and a larger one. Can you read the instruction and reach Ingredients, timers, Save and Next? If you use VoiceOver or Voice Control, report the specific missing or confusing label. A visual large-text pass does not establish screen-reader support.
6. Shared kitchen — with the coordinator
Only begin after both testers have approved access and the coordinator confirms sharing is enabled. Use two real iCloud accounts and disposable data.
- Owner creates a test kitchen and sends a private invitation. Participant accepts and selects it.
- Add/edit one recipe and a non-personal photo in both directions.
- Plan a date/servings and correct, omit or check a shopping item. Compare both devices.
- Reopen both apps. For an agreed offline test, reconnect and compare changes or any explicit conflict.
- Confirm Local kitchen was not moved, and each cook's step/timers stay personal to their device.
7. Send one useful report
Summarize which numbered checks passed, where you stopped and what surprised you. Use the report outline and the private contact from your invitation, or TestFlight feedback if you installed Risoni through TestFlight. Do not include passwords, verification codes, private invitations or unredacted personal recipes.
