Cook step by step
Choose Cook this recipe from a recipe or Cook from a planned meal. The cooking window shows one step at a time, with ingredients and timers nearby.
Ingredients and servings
- Open Ingredients.
- Set servings if the recipe has a reviewed original count.
- Compare scaled amounts with the original ingredient wording and check ingredients as you use them.
- Return to the method and choose Next step or Previous.
Scaling changes ingredient guidance, not cooking times, pan sizes or the original recipe. Review a written yield such as “14 to 16 pancakes” before using it as a serving count.
Start a timer
Choose Add timer on a step, enter a name and duration, then choose Start timer. Give different tasks distinct names.
When a step contains a recognized time, Timers from this step offers a suggestion. Select it, review the name and duration, then choose Start timer. Viewing or cancelling the review starts nothing.
For a range such as “5 to 7 min,” the suggestion uses the lower end so you can check before cooking longer. Use Add timer for a different duration.
Timers remain visible as you change steps. In a compact layout, use the active-timer summary to see names and deadlines. To stop a timer, choose its stop action and confirm.
Close and resume
Close cooking to leave temporarily. Reopen the same recipe or meal and choose to resume. The saved session retains its recipe snapshot, servings, step, ingredient checks and timer deadlines.
Finish cooking ends the session. If the recipe has changed, review the offered restart before switching to its latest wording.
Cooking progress and timers belong to this Mac. Someone else can cook a shared recipe independently without taking over your step or countdown.
Screen and keyboard controls
Keep screen awake controls sleep while you are actively cooking. Turn it off for normal sleep behavior. Use the shortcuts displayed in the app to navigate the cooking window.
A restored timer deadline does not guarantee an audible alert while Risoni is closed or in the background, or the Mac is locked. Use a separate kitchen or system timer when you need a reliable alert. See the beta limits.
