Try the Mac beta
Use a made-up recipe and disposable plan. Mark each check Passed, Problem or Not tried; you can spread them over several sessions. Beta access requires Adam's approval and a privately supplied installer.
1. Install and reopen
- Follow your approved Mac installation instructions.
- Check that the app says Risoni and shows the tomato icon.
- Eject the disk image and open Risoni from Applications. Confirm only the intended copy is running.
- Quit and reopen. Check the selected kitchen and any test recipe you have saved.
For an update, use only the upgrade path named in the release notes. Compare a disposable recipe, plan, shopping decision and saved cooking session before and after. Report missing data; do not erase it to make the test pass.
2. Add a recipe
Choose Paste text and enter this made-up practice recipe. It is a software test, not cooking advice.
Title: Beta Practice Soup
Ingredients: - 1 cup water - 2 tbsp parsley
Method: - Stir for 30 seconds. - Rest for 1 minute.
Notes: Disposable beta test recipe.
- Review the recipe, change its title and add an ingredient. Save.
- Reopen and check your edits.
- Paste the same original text again. Check that Risoni offers the saved recipe rather than another copy.
- Cancel a new paste before saving. Check that nothing was added.
- If imports matter to you, try a small file you could safely share for troubleshooting. Keep the original and compare warnings, counts, wording and photos.
3. Plan and shop
- In Edit, give the recipe a reviewed original serving count. Plan it for a chosen date and different servings.
- Open Shopping and check the date range and ingredients.
- Correct one amount, omit another generated ingredient and mark another item purchased.
- Add a manual item, switch List/By aisle and reopen the app.
- Check that the date, servings, correction, omission, purchase and view preference remain.
4. Cook and resume
- Choose Cook from the planned meal. Check servings and original ingredient wording.
- Review a suggested time, then cancel. Check that no timer starts.
- Start a named suggested timer and a second named manual timer.
- Check an ingredient, advance a step, close cooking and reopen the app.
- Resume and check the step, servings, ingredient check, timer names and continuing deadlines.
- Stop one timer and confirm the other remains. Finish only when ready to end the session.
Use a separate reliable timer for real cooking.
5. Try your window size and controls
Resize the window and try keyboard navigation. Can you read the step and reach Ingredients, timers, Save and Next? If you use VoiceOver or Voice Control, report missing or confusing labels. Visual readability alone does not establish screen-reader support.
6. Test sharing with the coordinator
Begin only after both testers have approved access and the coordinator confirms sharing is enabled. Use two real iCloud accounts and disposable data. Follow the shared-kitchen guide.
- Create a test kitchen, privately invite the participant and select the joined kitchen.
- Add and edit a recipe and non-personal photo in both directions.
- Plan a date and servings; correct, omit or check a shopping item. Compare both devices.
- Reopen both apps. For an agreed offline test, reconnect and compare changes or explicit conflicts.
- Check that Local kitchen was not moved and each cook's steps and timers stay on their own device.
7. Send a useful report
Use the text-only Mac feedback form and report outline. Say which checks passed, where you stopped and what surprised you. Do not include passwords, verification codes, private invitations or personal recipes.
