Add and import recipes
Keep the destination and original file clear
Choose the kitchen before opening an import. If you change kitchens while review is pending, restart the import in the intended kitchen. Keep the original file, inspect omissions and compare the saved recipe before a larger batch. For an unsupported local HTML encoding, save/export a UTF-8 copy and retry that file. An unchanged reimport should be reviewed for duplicate handling before you save again.
Open Recipes and choose how to add a recipe. Before saving, check its title, ingredients, instructions, servings, destination kitchen and warnings.
Write or paste a recipe
Choose New recipe to write one by hand. For text you can copy from a note or caption:
- Choose Paste text and paste the recipe.
- Choose Review recipe.
- Edit the title, ingredients and method. Add missing rows and remove unrelated text.
- Choose Save recipe. A title, an ingredient and a method step are required.
Headings such as Title, Ingredients, Method and Notes help separate the text. Risoni does not fetch social posts, transcribe videos or invent missing instructions. Cancel leaves your library unchanged. Pasting the same original text into the same kitchen again offers the saved recipe.
Paste a website link
Paste link fetches public recipe pages only from Allrecipes, BBC Good Food, Cookshack, Epicurious, Food Network, Serious Eats and Simply Recipes. It accepts each publisher's exact main or www HTTPS host; other hostnames are not included. America's Test Kitchen, Cook's Illustrated and Cook's Country are not Paste link publishers.
- Copy the recipe's HTTPS address.
- Choose Paste link in Recipes and enter it.
- Review the result, including its source and yield, then save.
Mac Safari capture is a separate action for America's Test Kitchen pages at americastestkitchen.com and its subdomains. Open a recipe page you can already view in Safari and use the Risoni capture action if available, then compare the preview with the visible page before saving. Signed-in subscriber capture has not been verified end to end; an earlier America's Test Kitchen webarchive preview was only a file-import test. The capture host check does not include separate Cook's Illustrated or Cook's Country domains. Risoni does not bypass subscriptions or guarantee an import.
Import recipe files
Choose Import Recipes, then select a file. Supported routes include Paprika recipe exports, CSV, local HTML and saved Safari web archives. Review the preview before saving.
Move recipes from Paprika
- Keep an untouched copy of your original export.
- Select the .paprikarecipes file in Risoni.
- Review totals and warnings. Check several recipes with photos, notes and sections.
- Save the reviewed recipe, or choose Save all new recipes for new entries in a batch.
- If saving stops, inspect the selected entry and message before retrying. Entries already saved remain saved.
A recognized cookbook name becomes a flat collection label; missing membership cannot be reconstructed. Incomplete source recipes need your edits to become complete. Reimporting an unchanged source should offer the existing recipe; changed sources need a review decision.
CSV and local HTML
For CSV, match columns to fields such as Title, Ingredients and Directions. Title is required. Inspect the sample rows, continue to preview, then save. An edited CSV row can appear as a new source, so review possible duplicates.
Local HTML must contain a supported recipe and use UTF-8 encoding. If its encoding is rejected, save a UTF-8 copy from the original app and retry. Renaming the file does not change its encoding.
Scan an image
- Choose Scan image, then Choose image file or Choose from Photos. Mac also offers Use image from clipboard.
- Compare the recognized lines with the source image.
- Assign and correct the title, ingredients and method, then save.
Use a clear image and check every quantity: recognition can misread fractions, columns and handwriting. If an image is too large, make a smaller copy and keep the original. Photos selection shares the chosen item rather than requiring broad photo-library access. See beta limits for routes still awaiting testing.
Check the saved recipe
Reopen the recipe and check the ingredient wording, method, source and photo. Choose Edit to repair anything that needs attention. Resolve a missing or unclear original serving count before relying on scaled amounts.
Keep a backup
Kitchen backup → Export all recipes and import history includes recipes, embedded photos and import records. Restore reviews conflicts and is limited to the same kitchen; it does not transfer a library into another shared kitchen.
Backups exclude meal plans, shopping lists, cooking sessions and sharing access. Keep your original exports as well.
For one recipe, Export selected recipe with import history retains its history. Export readable text makes a readable copy without photos or raw import records.
